Stack's Bowers Galleries set a new company record in its Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction, with results reported in October 2026 showing a total of over $70 million. That is the largest single-auction total in the firm's 90-plus-year history. The auction was held as an event partner of the American Numismatic Association's World's Fair of Money. More than 12,000 lots crossed the block. The headline lot was the Norweb specimen of the 1894-S Barber dime, graded PCGS Proof-63 with CAC and CMQ approval, which sold for approximately $1.25 million. The San Francisco Mint struck only 24 examples in 1894, and only nine are known to survive. Other standouts included a 1652 New England shilling from Massachusetts, among the earliest coins struck in what became the United States, which realized $134,200. An 1896 Proof Morgan dollar graded NGC Proof-65 with a Gold CAC sticker brought $39,040. A rare 1893-O Liberty Head half eagle graded PCGS MS-64 with CAC approval set a new auction record for the date at $43,920, approaching twice the PCGS Price Guide figure at the time. U.S. paper money sessions contributed $7 million to the total, and the Mack C. Chase Collection of Walking Liberty half dollars generated $2.45 million from its September offering. For collectors, the results show that the rare coin market in 2026 is strong across the board. CAC-approved coins commanded consistent premiums, exceptional condition rarities drew determined competition, and distinguished pedigrees added measurable value throughout the sale. Commonwealth Coins and Collectibles offers certified coins and silver rounds for buyers at every level. Explore our inventory at www.ccandc.gold.
